PARTICIPATION
SENIOR ART CRITICS AWARD

During a three month period of time, starting with October 1st 2006, German-language exhibition reviews with relevance for the Austrian art production and reception have been collected and put into archives. Texts about solo and group exhibitions of contemporary art in Austrian galleries, museums and artist-run-spaces were considered. The list of observed media contains German-language daily newspapers, magazines and Online-magazines and is published here.

The reviews were collected in an independent media observation, which determines the status quo of the national art reporting. The media observation was run by the basis wien. An invitation to support this project was being sent to the particular editorial offices. Media that were not included in our investigation could have sent an application.

For the introduction of the prize the media observation replaces the usual application process to define the status quo of Austrian art criticism. Like critics visit publicly accessible exhibitions the artists here judge only published texts.



JUNIOR ART CRITICS AWARD

The Junior Art Critics Award is bestowed to an author who has not yet or only rarely published his texts or maybe only in hardly accessible media. Applicants chose one out of seven exhibitions and were invited to send a German-language review for a fictitious art magazine with max. 3.500 signs. One out of the following exhibitions must have been chosen:

Schwaz: Katrin Plavcak, Stadtgalerie Schwaz, starting November 4, 2006
Salzburg: Philippe Bradshaw, Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac, October 6 - November 18, 2006
Linz: Johanna und Helmut Kandl, Lentos, starting September 29, 2006
Graz: Bruno Hoffmann, Galerie Patrick Ebensperger, starting November 10, 2006
Wien: Erwin Wurm, Museum Moderner Kunst, starting October 20, 2006
Wien: Mark Dion, Galerie Georg Kargl, starting November 9, 2006


Letters of application were welcome from November 1st until December 31st, 2006.
